On June 18-19, 2016, Council of Europe, in partnership with the High Council of Georgia, Chief Prosecutor’s Office and Georgian Bar Association organised a two-day joint training for a group of judges, prosecutors and lawyers on indirect testimonies and other ECHR standards foreseen under article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

There is no homogeneous practice on admissibility of hearsay as evidence at Georgian courts, therefore the training session aimed to raise awareness of Georgian legal professionals on the standards of the European Court of Human Rights on indirect testimonies and other standards foreseen under the European Convention on Human Rights.

As a result, 36 judges, prosecutors and lawyers enhanced their knowledge on the admissibility of indirect testimonies and other standards foreseen under article 6 of the ECHR that would contribute to the harmonisation of the legal practice in Georgia in line with European standards.

The Training took place under the EU/CoE Joint Project "Application of the European Convention of Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European Standards", which is funded through the Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
