Members of the Moldovan Bar Association participated in various European Forums and Conferences of Lawyers this September

During the month of September, members of the Moldovan Bar Association participated in various European Forums and Conferences of Lawyers, thanks to the "Support to the Moldovan Bar Association" component of the PCF Project on Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers’ profession in the Republic of Moldova.

 

European Association of Lawyers and the Polish Bar Meeting

2-3 September, Lodz and 30 September, Wroclaw

Upon the invitation of the Polish Bar, Moldovan lawyers participated in the European Association of Lawyers and the Polish Bar Meeting in Lodz on 2-3 September and the Conference on practical aspects of participation of lawyers in hearings before courts in criminal cases organised by the Polish Bar jointly with barristers from England in Wroclaw on 30 September. Moldovan lawyers returned home with new knowledge acquired and more importantly new networking opportunities. In the words of one of the participants, ‘these exchanges are beneficial not only for us, lawyers, but also for people, who will benefit from our new contacts in an increasingly across-the-border legal assistance context resulting from migration”.

 

European Young Bar Association International Week-end

22-25 September, London

The Moldovan Bar Association Young Lawyers Association took part for the first time in the International Week-end organized by the European Young Bar Association in London on 22-25 September. The President of the Moldovan Young Lawyers Association appreciated the participation as highly beneficial for putting the Association he represents on the map of this European Forum and opening additional cooperation opportunities.

 

Third meeting of the CCBE Committee for Central and Eastern Europe (PECO)

30 September, Tirana

Last but not least, thanks to the Council of Europe – EU Support to the Moldovan Bar Association, the cooperation with the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) has been re-launched. Members of the Moldovan Bar Association participated in the 3rd meeting this year of the CCBE Committee for Central and Eastern Europe (also known as PECO) on 30 September in Tirana, Albania. In the words of one of the members of the Moldovan delegation, ‘this meeting offered the opportunity for Moldovan lawyers to voice their current concerns in search of possible solutions to the challenges of the freedom of the profession of lawyer we presently face”.

 

The component on the "Support to the Moldovan Bar Association" of the "Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers' profession in the Republic of Moldova" project is funded by the Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The Council of Europe and European Union are working in partnership with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus to help them meet Council of Europe benchmarks in human rights, democracy and the rule of law and improve the lives of citizens.
