Support to the Moldovan Bar Association: Moldovan Young Lawyers at the Court’s meeting

On 2 December, five representatives of the Moldovan Young Lawyers Association travelled to Strasbourg to take part in a one-day meeting organised by the European Court of Human Rights. The Court organises such meetings every other year with the aim of discussing with applicants' representatives - representatives of Non-Governmental Organisations and international Bar Associations - practical aspects of bringing cases before the Court and in general problems which representatives encounter in the context of Court proceedings.

In the case of Moldovan Young Lawyers Association the meeting served a dual objective. As discussions evolved around a number of important aspects related to procedural, communication and cooperation aspects of the Court, the knowledge gained will be applied in learning and training activities organised by the Association for its members and trainee-lawyers. This meeting also enabled representatives of the Moldovan Young Lawyers Association to exchange views with colleagues from a number of jurisdictions, among which Romania, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Russia and it fostered thus its networking opportunities.

The component on the "Support to the Moldovan Bar Association" of the "Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers' profession in the Republic of Moldova" project is funded by the Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The Council of Europe and European Union are working in partnership with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus to help them meet Council of Europe benchmarks in human rights, democracy and the rule of law and improve the lives of citizens.
