Georgian Internet Governance Forum

On 5 September 2016, the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the international organizations and the Georgian national stakeholders including the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Developments, the Georgian National Communications Commission, Internet Society, ICANN, European IP Networks, Small and Medium Telecom Operators Association of Georgia, the national internet service providers and the representatives of civil society and academia held the Second Georgian National Internet Governance Forum 2016.

During the multi-stakeholder forum the national and international experts discussed various burning issues concerning the latest developments and challenges facing the internet governance society in Georgia and abroad. Special attention was paid to the status of the ongoing internet penetration projects in Georgia as well as the latest changes and possibilities regarding the new possibilities of the Georgian domain names and E-governance. In addition, the experts’ actively discussed the [principles and standards of the latest recommendations issued by the Council of Europe about the Net Neutrality or New Notion of Media while underling the problems concerning the online protection of children, ethical standards of online and social media and problems related to the internet media regulations etc.

Considering the successful organisation of the Second Georgian National Internet Governance Forum 2016 the organisers agreed to continue holding annual forums and making the multi-stakeholder meetings sustainable.
