Developments and challenges facing the Georgian media and internet sector

On 20-21 July the project team organised a two-day meeting of the national stakeholders including the representatives of the Georgian National Communications Commission, Charter of Journalistic Ethics, Georgian Public Service Broadcaster, Ministry of the Economy and Sustainable Development, Personal Data Protection Inspector and leading local NGOs etc. During the event the participants presented their assessments concerning the current developments of the Georgian media and internet sector as well as shared their suggestions regarding the possible cooperation with the Council of Europe.

The event was organised within the framework of the joint CoE/EU “Protecting Internet Freedom through Legislation and Arrangements for Multi-stakeholder Dialogue” Programme. The project was launched in January 2015 and aims to increase the compliance of national legal frameworks and policies with CoE standards on freedom of expression and the knowledge of relevant state authorities about Council of Europe internet governance and human rights standards and related European Court of Human Rights case-law.
