Trainings on consumer rights and cultural stereotypes in media reporting

The Council of Europe organised two trainings for the Georgian students and young journalists related to the standards of the protection of consumer rights and encountering cultural stereotypes in media reporting. The trainings were organised within the EU funded projects on “Promoting freedom, professionalism and pluralism of the media’” and “Protecting internet freedom through legislation and arrangements for Multi-stakeholder dialogue”.

The experts of the council of Europe presented the main principles concerning the protection of the consumer rights as well as reviewed the problematic cases discussed within the framework of the Georgian National Communications Commission and ombudsman office of the consumer protection. Available legal remedies along with the best European standards derived from the CoE guideline allowed the participants to increase their knowledge in this regard. In addition, practical cases were actively discussed about cultural stereotypes facing the local media landscape and best possible ways to encounter them.
