On 22-23 March 2017, a study visit of a group of Azerbaijani media professionals was organised in Strasbourg within the framework of the joint CoE/EU PCF Project “Freedom of Expression and Media Freedom” in Azerbaijan.

The main aim of the study visit was to raise awareness on European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and Council of Europe standards related to freedom of expression and media freedom among Azerbaijani media professionals.  10  media professionals, including media experts, who are involved in teaching on journlaism  became acquainted with CoE and ECHR’s work in the field of freedom of expression and were given an in-depth insight into the CoE’s Platform for the Protection of Journalism and the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights as supervised by the Committee of Ministers. They also had an overview of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights’ case-law with regard to Azerbaijan. 

On 24 March 2017, the participants of the study visit attended the Conference “Promoting dialogue between the European Court of Human Rights  (ECtHR) and the media freedom community” organised by the Council of Europe.
