Workshop on European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages (ECRML)

On 6-7 June 2015, the Council of Europe organised a workshop for experts, academicians and linguists working on minority issues and minority and Caucasian languages, in order to provide them with objective information on the Charter, present the content and scope of the ECRML provisions that Georgia wants to apply to the minority languages as well as state policies and strategies dedicated for better integration of minorities and discuss current developments in the education sphere in regards to teaching these minority languages in schools.

Participants also discussed the draft Law of Georgia on State Language and its interrelation with the Charter. During the discussions, participants voiced support for the signature of the Charter by Georgia. The meeting took place in the framework of the EU/Council of Europe Joint Programme “Civic Integration of National Minorities in Georgia and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages”.
