Conference on “Political Parties Financing in Ukraine: current legislation, recent developments and perspectives”

On 15 March, 2017 the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the National Agency on Corruption Prevention organised the international conference “Political Parties Financing in Ukraine: current legislation, recent developments and perspectives”.

The conference provided a platform to discuss the most recent developments in Ukraine and contributed to a discussion between international experts and Ukrainian national stakeholders, including representatives of the Parliament, oversight and controlling bodies and civil society. The goal was to support the development of a consistent approach to further increase the transparency of political parties financing in Ukraine in line with the Council of Europe standards and recommendations, as well as European good practices.

Over 100 participants, representing national authorities (including the Parliament, oversight and controlling bodies), international community, parliamentary and non-parliamentary political parties, non-governmental organisations and media had an opportunity to discuss and assess the results and challenges of implementation of the new legislative framework on prevention and fight against political corruption, introduced in 2015. In addition the participants had an opportunity to discuss existing legislative initiatives relating to transparency of political party financing in Ukraine.

The event was supported within the Council of Europe and the European Union Programmatic Cooperation Framework project “Fight Against Corruption in Ukraine” and Council of Europe projects “Assistance to the Ukrainian authorities in reforming electoral legislation and in conducting constitutional reform”, “Reform of the Electoral Practice in Ukraine”.
