Workshop on international standards related to media monitoring during pre-election campaign

Within EU funded project on “Promoting freedom, professionalism and pluralism of the media” the Council of Europe (CoE) in cooperation with the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) organised a two-day workshop on international standards related to media monitoring during pre-election campaign.

The workshop is a continuation of our support to the Georgian communications commission for promoting their professionalism and independence and increasing their institutional capacities. The national legal framework obliges the regulator to hold the media monitoring during pre-election campaign. Therefore, it was essential the experience shared by the leading international expert how to conduct the media monitoring during pre-election campaign. The participants actively discussed the practical issues facing in everyday work such as the challenges facing the monitors during the direct coverage and indication of different politicians in media reporting, the questions over positive, neutral or negative tone as well as regulations and problems concerning the gender stereotypes in media reporting.
