Training seminar for judges in Ganja city

On 24-25 November 2016, the Council of Europe organised, in cooperation with the Academy of Justice of Azerbaijan Republic, a training course in Ganja city on “The right to property under the European Convention on Human Rights”. 20 judges representing Ganja Appeal Court and the courts of first instance in Ganja and nearby regions, Shamkir, Goygol, Samukh, Shaki and Tovuz attended the two-day training seminar.

During the seminar participants got familiarized with the main principles under Article 1 of Protocol 1 to the European Convention on Human Rights and broadly discussed and analyzed the grounds for interference into the property rights based on the ECtHR case law. The training was delivered by the certified trainers of the Training of Trainers Programme held within the Project, who got an opportunity to increase their proficiency to deliver human rights training for legal professionals.

At the end the participants-judges emphasized the importance of the seminar, as according to them very often they are not able to spend much time on reading ECtHR case law in their daily professional work due to heavy workload of courts.

The training course was organised in the framework of the project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Azerbaijan” that is part of the Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus and is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
