Mobile crew of journalists contribute to an independent electoral media coverage of parliamentary elections in Armenia

In order to improve the media coverage of the electoral campaign and the election day on 2 April of the parliamentary elections in Armenia, two training sessions on the rights and responsibilities of reporters during elections, the detection of electoral fraud and the main criteria’s of an independent electoral coverage were organised for a total of 50 Armenian journalists by the Investigative Journalists NGO Hetq.

The trainings, which took place in the framework of the PCF project “Long-term electoral assistance to the election related stakeholders of Armenia”, were followed by the creation of a hotline in “Hetq Online”, where citizens had the opportunity to report about electoral irregularities and violations during the elections day, and the deployment of a mobile media team, which provided immediate response and coverage to the reports of incidents made by Armenian citizens in the hotline.

Through this methodology around 150 incidents were documented during the Election Day throughout the whole country. The irregularities reported by the mobile crew were mainly related to crowded ballot boots, group or family voting, unjustified assisted voting,  technical failures within the polling stations, multiple voting and voting of soldiers.
