How have we strengthened integrity and fought corruption in higher education in Armenia?

What has been the impact of our project “Strengthening integrity and combatting corruption in higher education in Armenia”? What have we achieved?

We have helped grantee organisations develop public awareness strategies and communication campaigns to prevent corruption in higher education and policy recommendations to detect fraud in education.

Management and academic staff of universities were trained on the model code of ethics to develop rules and procedures regulating corruption, bribery and integrity and to enhance accountability and transparency in curriculum development and student assessment. We also ran awareness raising activities for staff and students for the roll-out of the model code of ethics,

A set of recommendations were presented to the Ministry of Education and Science on further endorsement of the online platform in governance of higher education institutions, codes of ethics development, improvement of the human resources management, student assessment and curriculum development by higher education institutions.

These project results were discussed during a conference that took place in Yerevan on 30 November. Organised in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, the conference brought together educational professionals and decision makers of the higher education field from Armenia and other European countries to take a closer look on the results achieved, share experiences, discuss lessons learned and priority issues that should be addressed in the future.

The project “Strengthening Integrity and Combatting Corruption in Higher Education in Armenia” achieved two main objectives: i) implementing the micro projects promoting integrity and transparency in higher education by grantee organisations and ii) building capacity of higher education institutions and their staff in implementing ethical standards and developing mechanisms for transparency and accountability.
