Developing Codes of Ethics in higher education in Armenia

In the framework of the Council of Europe project “Strengthening Integrity and Combatting Corruption in Higher Education in Armenia”, the team of the international and national consultants developed model Codes of Ethics for actors in Higher Education Institutions and Guidance on producing Codes of Ethics for Higher Education.

The two main documents produced for the Council of Europe’s Pan-European Platform on Ethics, Transparency and Integrity in Education (ETINED), “Ethical Principles for Education” (relying more on beliefs and values) and “Ethical Behaviour of All Actors in Education” (representing ethical rules and principles of professional practice) are the background documents for these model Codes of Ethics.

The project carried out consultancy with local stakeholders in more than ten universities of Armenia and sought recommendations on how to adjust these documents to the local context between March and June  2016.

Based on these recommendations and the discussions in staff and student focus groups at leading universities, the project is advancing the work on the model Codes of Ethics, bringing these documents closer to national context and addressing specific issues encountered in the Republic of Armenia.

The final versions of these documents will be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Science for review and recommendation to all universities in Armenia in the course of 2016.
