Routes4U Consultation on Cultural Routes in the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR)

On 26 and 27 March, the Routes4U Consultation on Cultural Routes in the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) took place in Helsinki, Finland. Participants discussed Cultural Routes priorities for the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR), such as the themes "Modern Movement" and "Maritime Heritage/Traces of Ice Age".

Organised within the framework of the Finnish Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the event gathered around 70 participants from national and regional institution from the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR), Cultural Routes certified by the Council of Europe and projects. As stated Ms Riitta KAIVOSOJA, Director General of the Department of Art and Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland:

The Baltic Sea States have a strong tradition of cooperation. It lays a natural foundation for collaboration on Cultural Routes in Europe’s northern regions. [...] Joint discussions such as this one can deliver concrete recommendations on ways to strengthen interaction between the cooperation structures and networks within the Baltic Sea Region.”

 

The meeting took advantage on the discussions and recommendations made during the previous Routes4U meeting for the Baltic Sea Region (6 September 2018, Oslo), compiled in the publication Roadmap for the Baltic Sea Region

Routes4U is a joint programme between the Council of Europe and the European Union. The 30-months project (2017-20) aims to foster regional development through the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme in the four EU macro-regions, according to the Faro Convention. The Joint Programme ended on 31 July 2020.
