Workshop “European Cultural Routes in the Baltic Sea Region: Prospects for development”

On 6 March, the Baltic Region Heritage Committee (BRHC) organized a workshop in Oslo to discuss the development of European Cultural Routes in the Baltic Sea Region. Composed by nominated representatives of state authorities in charge of national heritage management, the BRHC promotes the potential of cultural heritage as a strategic resource for the development of the Baltic Sea Region.

Constanze Metzger, Routes4U Senior Project Officer, presented during the meeting good practices and benefits of Cultural Routes for the region. Participants agreed that Cultural Routes are an important tool to foster transnational cooperation, sustainable tourism and social participation. They agreed on two priority themes that should be further analyzed with a view to develop a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe in the Baltic Sea Region: Modern movement and Maritime heritage.

These two themes will be the subject of discussion during the Routes4U Consultation on Cultural Routes for the Baltic Sea Region, that will take place in Helsinki on 26-27 March 2019.
