Workshop to revise activities for students with Special Educational Needs and Grants to support Learning Centres

During a two-day workshop in Pristina, held on 23 and 24 August 2021, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) and the six regional Resource Centres worked together to revise the curriculum in the following five fields of activities for students with special educational needs.

- Communication

- Cognitive development

- Physical development

- Social emotions

- Daily life skills

The five fields were revised in order for teachers and teaching assistants to be able to track the progress of the students more precisely.

The workshop was facilitated by the expert and professor Judith Hollenweger-Haskell from the Zürich University of Teacher Education, who also shared best practices from Switzerland.

As a next step, Professor Hollenweger will develop recommendations for the MESTI to adjust the current curriculum based on the proposals.

The activity was held in Pristina and strictly respected prevention measures against COVID-19.

In a ceremony hosted on August 12, grant agreements were signed with 4 NGOs:

520 students of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities from pre-school to lower secondary level of education will benefit from the support to be provided in 10 learning centres, in the municipalities of Gjakova/Djakovica, Shtime/Stimlje, Plemetina, Gracanica and Istog/Istok.

This support will encompass a range of fields, such as various educational projects, after-school support for children in need, cooperation with families, psycho-social support as well as pre-school support for the youngest.
