Presentation of the report on Trafficking in Human Beings for the Purpose of Labour Exploitation

“Trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation is an emergent area of focus in ‘the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia’ and thus, enhanced legal and policy framework, as well as greater involvement of the labour inspectors are needed to combat this phenomenon” – said one of the authors of the Report on Trafficking for the Purpose of Labour Exploitation, Klara Skrivankova.

The Report and the guidelines for trade unions, private sector and recruitment agencies were prepared by the independent experts Klara Skrivankova and Lazar Jovevski, and were presented on the occasion of the international seminar on trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation on 28 June 2017.

The seminar was attended by more than 40 stakeholders, such as labour inspectors, social workers, representatives from the line ministries, NGOs, private companies, trade unions and private recruitment agencies. The seminar provided a forum for discussion for the participants who shared their experience related to trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation and discussed the findings and recommendations set out in the Report.

At the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the main issues identified by the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) and the experience of the Finnish Labour Inspectorate in the area of trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation. The panel discussion gathered national representatives from the private sector, trade unions and private recruitment agencies who informed about their anti-trafficking efforts and discussed the existing challenges.

The seminar was organised in the framework of the Horizontal Facility Action on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings which is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
