A Roundtable “HCJ as the driver of change in the judicial system: joint discussion with civil society representatives” supported by the EU/CoE Joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine” was held at the High Council of Justice on 22 June 2016 in Kyiv.
The Roundtable was aimed at discussing important issues of NGO’s focused attention to the HCJU activities, recent adoption of Constitutional amendments with regard to judiciary and other issues.
In particular, the following issues were discussed: consideration procedure of disciplinary cases, the state of consideration of applications and complaints received by the HCJ from the Interim Special Commission for the evaluation of judges, harmonization of the practice of the HCJ, recommendations to prevent in the future grounds for violations by judges, particularly by making changes to legislation taking into account international standards and best practices, other issues.
The representatives of the High Council of Justice, civil society: the Reanimation Package of Reforms (RPR), Centre for Legal and Political Reforms, Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, Civic Lustration Committee and others attended the Roundtable.
Based on results of the meeting the list of further joint actions of the HCJ, NGOs, experts and representatives of academia with the support of the EU/CoE Joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine” was identified to ensure improvement of the legal framework and impartial monitoring of the HCJ.
