Forum: “The Constitution: public trust and new justice”

Forum: “The Constitution: public trust and new justice” organized by the Centre of Political and Legal Reforms (CPLR) and Reanimation Package Reform (RPR) with the support of the EU/CoE joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine”, CoE Project "Continued Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ukraine" and CoE Project “Strengthening the system of judicial accountability in Ukraine” was held on December 14, 2015 in Kyiv.

The Forum was aimed at facilitating broad discussion of important issues on Constitutional amendments and ensuring broad public participation in the process of constitutional reforms.

The event was attended by leading constitutional experts, representatives of civil society, members of Parliament, members of the Constitutional Commission, representatives of the judicial branch, diplomatic missions in Ukraine, representatives of international technical assistance programs and others.

The event had three sections: "The current constitutional process: ensuring trust between state institutions, policymakers and society", "Judicial reform: demand of the society, the needs of judges and European standards", "Reform of the Prosecutor’s Office: first outcomes and constitutional perspectives."

During the Forum the issues concerning transparency of the constitutional process, the public participation in the process and consideration of the society demand on changing the "system" were discussed. Further discussions were conducted regarding comprehensive judicial reform and reform of the prosecutor's office as well as on how to find consensus in Parliament and to ensure public trust to the proposed reforms.
