Exchanges of views on the way in which the Project should contribute to the current reform process in the justice sector were held with the First Deputy Minister of Justice Ms Nataliia Sevostianova, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Mr Oleksiy Filatov and the Head of the Main Department for Legal Policy Mr Kostyantyn Krasovsky, the Head of Good Governance and Rule of Law Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Mr Alexandru Albu as well as with the Team Leader of the European Union Project entitled “Support to Justice Sector Reform in Ukraine”, Mr Virgilijus Valančius. On 22 April the Council of Europe delegation was invited to attend as observers a Steering Committee of the latter project chaired by Deputy Minister of Justice Mr Anton Yanchuk.
The Consolidation Project is a part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2015-2017 as well as of the long-standing effort of the Organisation to support Ukrainian authorities in the development of an efficient and accountable justice sector through several ongoing projects and other types of assistance in line with Council of Europe standards, in particular the European Convention on Human Rights, the case-law of the European Court, numerous opinions of the Venice Commission and recommendations of the Committee of Ministers and of several intergovernmental bodies.
