Delegation from Turkey visits the European Court of Human Rights

A study visit of a delegation from Turkey to the European Court of Human Rights (the Court) was held on 25-26 November 2021 within the framework of the joint European Union and the Council of Europe programme Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022.

The delegation was composed of representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Presidents of Courts, Chief and Deputy Chief Public Prosecutors, as well as judges and public prosecutors from seven provinces in Turkey.

During the visit, the participants had an opportunity to listen to presentations delivered by Court lawyers and discuss with them on its case-law on Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights - Right to liberty and security, Article 6 - Right to a fair trial, and Article 10-Freedom of expression, which are covered by Turkey’s Action Plan on Human Rights. The delegation was also given a presentation on the structure and functioning of the Court.

The agenda of the visit included a meeting with the judge to the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Turkey, Assoc. Prof. Ms. Saadet Yüksel. The delegation also visited the Permanent Representation of Turkey to the Council of Europe and met with Ambassador Kaan Esener.
