“Week against Discrimination” kicks off in Albania with the support of Horizontal Facility III programme

The Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination in co-operation with the EU and Council of Europe joint action on “Advancing the protection from discrimination in Albania” is organising in Albania the “Week against Discrimination” which aims to inform and raise awareness on various aspects surrounding protection of human rights, especially for the most vulnerable groups, and the important role of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination in ensuring protection of fundamental rights.

The ‘Week against discrimination’ consists of four informing and raising awareness activities which will take place in Tirana – 9 February 2022, Malësia e Madhe – 15 February 2023, Bilisht – 16 February 2023, and Lushnjë – 17 February 2023.

The purpose of these activities is to support the regional offices of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination in their efforts to increase the visibility and their impact in related communities, in the municipalities where they are located, but also in the surrounding locations of the area. During the events, key topics of interest would be discussed with the participants including LGBTI rights, people with disabilities, bulling etc.

During its implementation, the ‘Week against Discrimination’ will further contribute to enhance the presence as well as a more active role of the Commissioner for Protection against Discrimination in small municipalities, where there is a greater need for information and knowledge about human rights and fundamental freedoms.

This initiative is supported by the EU and Council of Europe joint Horizontal Facility III programme and its action on “Advancing the protection from discrimination in Albania” which aims to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders to address minority protection and promotion, protection of LGBTI rights and combating hate speech in line with the standards and recommendations set by the Council of Europe.
