Back Montenegro: regional conference on the role of the constitutional court

 

The regional Conference on the role of the Constitutional Court in developing the rule of law and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms took place on 20 and 21 December 2016 in Budva, Montenegro.

The Conference was organised on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Montenegro´s independence, under the Council of Europe´s Action “Fighting ill-treatment and impunity and enhancing the application of the European Court of Human Rights case-law on national level" with the aim of strengthening the institutional capacity of the Constitutional Court towards better application of the European Court of Human Rights case-law.  

The conference was attended by representatives of constitutional courts from the countries in the region (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, “The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia) as well as representatives of the judiciary, Ombudsperson´s office, civil sector and legal practitioners from Montenegro. The Conference facilitated judicial dialogue between constitutional judges on enhancement of the constitutional justice as a key element in fostering and deepening the basic values enshrined in the Constitutions.
