"Emerald Network of Nature Protection Sites, Phase II"
Welcome to the webpage of the Joint European Union/Council of Europe project supporting the establishment of the Emerald Network in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The project aims to improve biodiversity protection and thus the long-term survival of threatened species and habitats of European importance in the project target countries, through specfic site conservation measures in the Emerald Network sites. The Emerald Network of Areas of Special Conservation Interest, launched by the Council of Europe in the framework of the Bern Convention on the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats represents the practical extention of the EU's Natura 2000 Network in the Union's neighbouring countries.
