Back Promotion of the outcomes of the Pilot Projects Scheme “Human Rights and Democracy in Action”

At the margins of the Steering Committee for Educational Policy and Practice (CDPPE) plenary session, an event to present and promote the outcomes of the 2013 cycle of the Pilot Projects Scheme "Human Rights and Democracy in Action" was held on 25 March 2014 in Strasbourg.

This informal event took the form of a question and answer session. A spokesperson for each project was interviewed about the opportunities and foreseen impact of their particular project as they saw them, and the benefits they felt had been obtained by participating in the scheme.  The audience was also given the opportunity to put questions to the representatives of the projects.

Eleven countries participated in three pilot projects and three topics were addressed:

  1. Teacher training (Article 9 of the Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education)
  2. Skills for promoting social cohesion, valuing diversity and handling differences and conflict (Article 13 of the Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education)
  3. Curriculum (Article 6 of the Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education)

Participants at the event included CDPPE members, Permanent Representatives to the Council of Europe of the countries which took part in the 2013 cycle of pilot projects and members. During the course of the evening, participants had the opportunity to hear about and view the results obtained including two short documentaries.

The evening showed the enthusiasm and energy of those involved in the projects and gave other countries the opportunity to find out about the 2014 cycle of pilot projects which will be launched at the beginning of April.
