In the past 15 years, recognition of youth work and non-formal learning/education gained a very important place on the agendas of not only European institutions but also of many other stakeholders, at European and national level. As a follow-up of numerous related initiatives, projects, and processes, the EU-CoE youth partnership organised in November 2011 a Symposium on recognition of youth work and non-formal learning in co-operation with JUGEND für Europa and SALTO T&C RC. The participants of the Symposium adopted a Statement and discussed actions leading to the implementation of concrete follow-up activities. They charged the Expert Group on Recognition with fine-tuning and editing the draft Plan of Action and asked it to monitor its realisation. In 2014 the Expert Group continues to further content reflections and will keep on seeking synergies between the efforts undertaken by the European institutions and other international bodies, based on recent and forthcoming reviews of the Plan of Action and future priority actions.

The Mapping on existing tools and practice and the Compendium of testimonies/stories on the impact of youth work and non-formal learning/education are initiatives directly resulting from the Plan of Action and both publications will contribute to the promotion of youth work, which is one of the main priorities of the EU-CoE youth partnership. More information with regard to the background of the Mapping and of the Compendium, the profile of the experts-authors, the working conditions and the application procedure can be found in the attached Concept Paper.

But to develop these two online publications, we need your contributions! Without you, the work cannot be done…

The Compendium

As a young person, are you involved in youth work? If older, maybe you were involved in youth work when you were younger? Would you say that youth work has had an impact on your life? Have some specific people in your youth work experience had an impact on you? Is there a particular moment that will always stay with you?

If yes, we would be glad to hear about it and we would like to share your story with others… We would love to hear, see or read how being involved in youth work has affected your life?

To contribute, you can use this form.

The Mapping

Are you working towards better recognition of youth work and non-formal education/learning in your own context? Have you developed a recognition tool or a practice that has been tested and evaluated? Are you interested and willing to share your tool/practice with other youth workers in Europe?

If you have answered positively to these questions, we would like to invite you to contribute to the EU-CoE youth partnership’s Mapping of existing recognition tools and good examples of practices at European and national level (working title).

To contribute, you can use this form.

The deadline to send the contributions is the 15th of June 2014 using the appropriate form depending on the type of your contribution, to be sent by e-mail to Mojca.KODELA-LESEMANN@partnership-eu.coe.int.
