Back Teaching controversial issues – developing effective training for teachers and school leaders

The French Ministry of Education hosted the first coordination meeting of the pilot project “Teaching controversial issues – developing effective training for teachers and school leaders” in Paris from 8 to 9 September 2014.

Representatives of the implementing partners - Cyprus, Ireland, Montenegro, Spain, United Kingdom – and of the associated countries – Albania, Austria, France and Sweden – reached a common understanding of what the project is focussing on and on what is expected to be produced within the framework of the project.

They also agreed upon the outline of a scoping paper on why teaching controversial issues in EDC/HRE is important and to establish what are the key principles and processes that underpin effective teaching approaches and on the outline of a training programme for teachers based on effective principles and processes, to build capability and confidence in teaching controversial issues.

The draft scoping paper and of the training programme are expected to be discussed at the second coordination scheduled on 20 October 2014 in Strasbourg.
