Back Developing students’ ability to assess information from media and social networks

The partner countries – Belarus, Georgia, Lithuania and the Russian Federation - implementing the pilot project “Teacher training in education for democratic citizenship and human rights: how to develop students’ ability to assess information from media and social networks?” met in Vilnius from 22 to 23 July 2014 to discuss in detail the topics they expected to address and the outputs to be produced in the framework of the project.

The partner countries agreed upon the outline of a methodological tool aiming at reviewing existing literature and training approaches - to ascertain what the key challenges are for teachers in teaching in an environment where diverse sources of information are competing. The tool will also include training lessons on topical issues to help teachers to strengthen students’ skills to critically assess internet and social media information.

A detailed work programme was set up, defining precisely the roles and responsibilities of each country. The draft methodological tool and the results of the training activities are expected to be presented at the EDC/HRE Coordinators meeting on 21 and 22 October 2014 in Strasbourg.
